In November 2009, the United Nations officially declared Nelson Mandela International Day, setting the stage for a tradition that has touched the lives of people worldwide. On this occasion, people from all corners of the globe dedicate 67 minutes of their time to engage in acts of kindness, compassion, and community service.

This year, the team at Tourvest, a leading player in the travel industry, took the spirit of Nelson Mandela Day to heart and made a meaningful impact in the lives of those less fortunate. With a firm belief that even a small gesture can create ripples of change, the Tourvest staff united in a heartwarming initiative.

Over 160 dedicated staff members were split into shifts, each given a specific task in the preparation, delivery, and distribution of hot meals to an impoverished community in Hillbrow, Johannesburg. From setting up gas cookers to chopping vegetables, spicing ingredients, cooking, stirring, and packing, the entire process was covered by the enthusiastic team.

As the mouthwatering aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, Tourvest staff members donned smiles as they poured love and care into every meal. The commitment extended beyond the 67 minutes, as they went above and beyond to make a difference in their community.

Working with Afrika Tikkun, the Tourvest team ensured that bread was purchased for the occasion. The heartwarming initiative culminated in a visit to the Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church, where they distributed not only nourishing 2-liter soup portions but also fruit and bread to those in need.

One of the most touching moments was seeing the joy on the faces of 30 kids who received wonderful gifts and snack boxes filled with treats. These simple gestures undoubtedly brought moments of happiness to the young souls.

To express their gratitude for the church’s year-round efforts in supporting the community, the Tourvest team treated the wonderful volunteers to a delicious lasagna lunch.
